Gripper arm alignment - Works almost fine !

by Jon_Mtl » Sun Apr 10, 2016 5:35 pm

Good day,

I'm wondering what to adjust on my Rockola 429 :

The gripper arm works fine at selecting discs and putting them on the turntable at one exception, one space on the carousel is not in alignement with the gripper arm. The disc stays in place, the gripper grips nothing ... If I stop the movement one micro second prior to the automatic attempt and just move the carousel one notch then it grips it.

I notice it was always the same selection, which happens to be the last letter/digit, "J0" I believe.

Any idea what to do to solve the situation ?

Thanks !
Jean

Hi Jean,
IF--it is ----ONLY--- the one space, I would guess, the record separator(s) for that space are bent ?? Ron Rich

Hi Ron,

If the record separators are bent, which is very possible, I can not say it is super apparent though.
In such a case, is it ok to manually force the separator with pliers ? I'll add that I can move the carousel in both directions with my bare hands for a few millimeters, which is all the gripper arm need to then be able to grab the disc.

Hello Jean,

It is many years since I have worked on Rock Ola's but in our service department we were told never to bend the seperators.

In most cases it was a adjustment that was needed and once you started bending the seporators the fault would present itself elsewhere. I have seen mechanisms that have been destroyed by someone playing catchup.

Hi Guy's,
I am ASSUMING ( since I can't see it), if it is only one record space, that has this problem, and it's NOT a wrapped record ( have you tried another record ??), that ONE side of that space's separator has already been bent--if so, nothing, IMHO, is going to fix it other then very CAREFULLY returning it to where it should be?? I would attempt to visualize the difference between the space that fails, and the ones that work--then I believe I would attempt to correct the problem with my hands--not "pliers"-- Ron Rich

Thanks Ron for the comments.
I used my hand gently and the problem is gone.
Cheers !
