I have a Magnavox Astrosonic with a Micromation turn table. Got for $100 last year and everything is working. It needs a new stylus and all the potentiometers need to be cleaned out but the radio, the record player was all working....until recently. Im not sure exactly what happened but my daughter often turn the switch to auto to play a record, but I think this time she turned the speed selector. The speed selector is just a dial on the outside of the selector switch. I looked underneath the turntable, I took the top of the column off of the selector switch, but I cant find where the speed knob is connected. I don't even care if I get it working as long as I can set the speed to 33 because that's what all my records are...but its stuck on 78. Any ideas? Here is link to what this looks like.
The speed selector collar on the Micromatics can only be moved to another speed IF the changer is turned OFF. Force-turning the speed selector collar if the unit is "on" is a no-no, and can do damage to the interlock mechanism underneath. If such damage is done, it will now require a tech to repair it.
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.
How good a mechanic are you? If so unplug set from wall socket, remove back of console, unplug the power and the 2 audio cables to the changer.Be sure tone arm is clamped down so it will not move. be sure on-off switch is off. changer is held in by "Flip" clips flip them up and gently remove changer from console turn changer upside down being sure not to damage the tone arm or record stabiliser arm or the spindle. whil;e doing so. study linkages that are attched to speed control outer knob. since you only want 33 rpm, just manualy move linkage so you get 33 rpm. if this is too much for you get a pro to do it for you Good luck.
Well I FINALLY got around to fixing this. I performed the steps that you listed. I noticed the pin that goes from the sleeve to the linkage was gone, so I thought "Ill just use a small nail or something to replace it." I happened to looked down, and in the corner of the record player was a tiny little 3/4" pin. It had just fallen out, so I put it back in, re assembled and all is good.
Yeah its been over a year, but thanks for the instructions!
