i absolutely have to have this record. Ive been looking for weeks and cant find anything on the internet. Most might know this song by the old cartoon "owl jolson" or whatever. It was also in the movie from 1936 "the singing kid". But anyways im aware that a lot of people redid this song. Id like Cab Calloway or Al jolson's but really any would do. I just know they have to have it on record!

any help would be AMAZING!
ps. heres a video of "the singing kid" where they sing it. its only part tho cause its a movie and they dont sing it all.

Here's the information about the song from the internet movie database:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0028257/soundtrackI did a site search of the Online discographical project --
http://www.78discography.com -- and found that Cab Calloway made a recording for
Brunswick, No. 7638 --
http://www.78discography.com/BRN7500.htm -- on 1/27/36.
An *.RAM (Real Player) version of that recording is available on this page --
http://www.jazz-on-line.com/Cab_Calloway.htmThat's the only reference to a recording of the song I was able to spot, so far. If I find anything else, I'll pass the information along here.

Now that you know what to look for -- Brunswick, No. 7638 -- you could periodically check eBay, where 78s come up for sale all the time, as well as some of the other online auctions, such as:
http://www.78rpm.com/http://www.thoseoldrecords.com/http://www.bluesworld.com/ Other sites that sell/auction records are listed on this page:
http://www.proaxis.com/~settlet/record/links.htmlAnother option is to post a wanted ad on some of the forums catering to antique phonograph/record collectors. You can find quite a few by googling:
Antique Phonograph Forum OR "Message Board"
Good luck.

Great! I just joined today! for all future references, go to gemm.com, or musicstack.com, or recordfinders.com. Of course, ebay is a good source, but watch out for "antique dealers" on there. They don't know anything about records, and their prices are outrageous. One dealer is demanding $25 per 78, regardless of condition or relevance.

What a HOOT!
It was great to see some of the old Warner Bros. stuff. That orchestra was awesome, and they did release an albumn back in the 70's (maybe sound effects), not sure. I'm glad they used a lot of Classical music, and it certainly got my attention. I can spank a Hammond B3 pretty good these days, but I like to go back to some of those piano pieces. Hey, have the best of both worlds...a 9-ft concert grand in the living room, and a big Hammond/Leslie setup in the family room.
This is my first time coming to this particular section 'cause I have only a few 78's, but several thousand LP's. Warner Bros was the bomb back in the day, and I did manage to catch their cartoon marathon (taped all 24 hours+) and l laughed and howled all the way...LOL
I should have popped in here a little sooner, I probably have the recording stached somewhere, but have yet to go everything I have scattered through 7 rooms in this house. --BB
