Hi--I have a small Maggie amp and a spare V-M changer. I'd like to use one with the other, so my question is, can the power cord from the changer be spliced with that from a Mag so it can be plugged directly into the amp? Both V-M and Maggie changers have unique 3-wire power plugs, but the colors are different: red, yellow and black for the Mag, red, gray and black for the V-M. Does anybody know which of these wires could be spliced together correctly (in order to avoid a quick call to the fire dept)?

You can easily find out with an ohmmeter.

On the Magnavox, black is hot, yellow is switched power for the amp, red is neutral.

Test the V-M by touching the probes to two wires and turning the power switch on and off (but not to REJ).

If the power switch does not do anything to the reading, and the reading shows some resistance (not 0), the two wires are the amp power and the neutral.

If the power switch changes the reading between infinite and 0 ohms, you have the hot wire and the amp power wire.

If the power switch changes the reading between infinite and a nonzero resistance, you have the hot wire and the neutral wire.

Move one of the probes to the other wire, and you will know which wire is which.
