rowe r92 no volume control

A friend told me yesterday that his rowe r 92 volume control stopped working.I'm guessing the volume just stays at a constant hearable level.
He has changed the volume pot,no change.He "heard" the problem might be in the pre amp.
If I had a clue what to look for I could possibly fix it for him.
I told him the caps needed updated no matter what the issue

"Guessing" don't get it--find out EXACTLY, what the problem is--then axk, and I might have a solution. Is a "remote" VC connected, along with the "local"?. Is he using a "dual control" ? Are both channels affected/working ?
