seeburg ay100sha-2 diag problem

Hello all . A few weeks ago I picked up a seeburg ay100 for 200. Seems to be in fair to good shape. Missing parts etc etc. Basic back ground on the unit is a tsu-3, with a shfa3 amp with a avcu10 and 33-1/3 auto speed,rcsu2 steeper,hdu1 half dollar unit, and cau1 credit unit.
Went to start the basic diags per the manual printed by David Dryden in 2000. But ran into a few problems. Missing tubes , red cap missing for the main fuse on the tsu3, foil was a nice touch holding in the burnt fuse. Have ordered those. But besides I'm missing the coin equipment, and have a cau-1 instead of a udp or upu . so on the diag 14ay-u it points me to the universal pricing unit I don't have. Not sure what to do at this point.

Eugine,
I don't understand what your problem is (other then the "foil fuse")--Does that re-print contain an "Installation and Operation Guide"--if so, the following should be explained there-- an AY100SH-2 should not have a USPU/UDPU-1--
According to the model info you have given--it should have an "Autospeed" ( The "A" in AY"), be a 100 selection phono.
It was equipped with either single pricing unit or an accumulating single pricing unit("S") and a "Half Dollar (supplemental) unit, as well as the half dollar coin acceptor ("H")--look at the coin instructions on the front of the machine to determine which one is correct for that phono Ron Rich

On the front I have 3 selections for 25,1 for 10 and 7 for 50. "Installation and Operation Guide" Seems to skip cau units .But I was wondering can I continue trouble shooting without the coin unit or do I need to bypass it. And can I continue to follow the trouble shooter and and just check the cau were it says upu or upd. Or should I get a different manual .

On the front--did it say "--select after each coin"--or "--up to $1 total"--If it's the first one, the phono originally had a SPU unit, if the second, it was the CAU type--
As for the TS guide--which model TS guide are you using? Do you have the required "Seeburg test lamp" ? Ron Rich

Just checked said up to 1 dollar. the manual I have is part number 486513. I don't have the seeburg test light, I have the section on it. I think a few people have had their hands in this unit found string holding some of the wires ( like an old tv repairman I knew used to do)and found that the wires to the small price board were all on the s terminals when the manual said one should be on d for cau usage.I think someone might have been trying to make this a free play unit but don't know were to check for that except follow wires.

You are reading the wrong info--You do not have a "(AYxxx)U" model--you have a "(A)Y" model--
Which model RCSU (stepper), or TJU is installed ? Ron Rich

Whomever "told you"-- told you wrong-- A RCSU-2 Code A did not use a "red Cap" fuse there--a RCSU-2 Code B did. That is the only difference between them--
If the top of that fuse holder is constructed of "metal", you need a "N" type 3.2 mp fuse. If black "plastic" , it would be a GMQ 3.2 ("Red Cap") type fuse
But--Unless you are operating a wallbox, no fuse need be inserted at all-- Ron Rich

Lol Oh well guess I'll hold on to the fuse and holder I bought. yes it has a metal top. If someone converted it to a free play box were would they have likely changed anything beside the cau ?

Eugine,
You bought both the Red Cap fuse and fuse holder ? If so, you can install them--if I re-call right, you will need to "modify" the hole for the holder.
The CAU is the most likely place it was modified--however, it can also be done elsewhere. I would strongly suggest that you "invest" in an electronic pricing unit replacement. This avoids having to deal with the (IMHO) "nasty" CAU, and most important, it saves the latch bar from catching fire. If interested, I do stock and sell them--contact me at:
ronnnrich@yahoo.com, if you wish. ( I also have the "N" type fuse for sale) Ron Rich

Funny you should say that , I bought a electronic free play unit that replaces the hdu and the cau . Not sure if its the same thing or not. I would be interested in the fuse so as I progress in working out the problems will be contacting you about it. I installed the free play unit this morning. the buttons latch down , then 20-30 seconds later pop back up but the unit doesn't select a record. Counter doesn't change. Hmm wait a sec does the electronic pricing unit replace the small board under the keys? Just ignore if I'm being dumb back is killing me so took my pills. The unit does scan in service mode.
