My grandfather has this Magnavox solid state console. He cannot remember when he bought it, all he knows is that he bought it at a Magnavox television store as a display model, and still paid a great amount for it. I think it is from the '70s because of the 4 matrix 8-track player. Any help would be appreciated.

most likely from about 75 or later and i would assume about 325$. kinda guessing on price considering I have an older one with just radio and turntable that cost around 200$.

The matrix system would place it between 1972 and 1976. The cassette recorder on top is the same as one I bought new from Radio Shack in 2000.

No pics of the record changer?

Hopefully these will help. I bought the antenna at RadioShack, too. It and the tape recorder are both Realistic brand.

I yield to the man who can identify all changers just by looking. But this looks like a replacement...the base work. With Magnavox you best bet is to take the back off and look for numbers on the tuner.

The paper sticker on the back of the radio is missing. I do not have any serial, model, or chassis number. All I have are pictures.

I have a Maggie Console around 1973, give or take. It is made of some kind of pressed wood and weighs a ton. No sliding top, just a 3/4 lid. It has the same Matrix 8-track and turntable. I believe the turntable is a 700 series, can't remember the numbers...something like W714, W715, W716 and has the cue lever as yours.

It also has two big torpedo-shaped styrofoam bass chambers inside and has a small separate amp that is floor mounted. I paid somewhere between $25-$40 for it.

I have not been able to remove the spindle.

I had a Model 1P3833 bought in 1971 for $494.00. No 8-track. The record player on yours is like the micromatic on mine except the cue control lever on mine was near the tone arm head. I don't want to beat a dead horse about model numbers and tuner numbers. But besides the paper label on the back there may have been one pasted on the bottom inside, and one on the tuner. The number probably starts with an "R". Or the chassis may have same number stamped in ink without the "R." These numbers are very helpful in identifying documentation and dating your set. Even at that in my experience what's called out in documentation such as for record changers don't always match what has been installed by the factory. You can find numbers on the underside of the record changer. I guess it is of the W700 series.

My spindle is removable. The 45 adapter is square, domino-shaped. Also, from the look of the turntable, if you turn those mounting levers a quarter turn, the turntable should lift right out, so you should be able to see what's inside your unit without removing the back.

I have several units with similar black turntables, some have the smaller 9" platter, and some have the speed selector on the right, just in front of the arm. Some of the selectors are tall, while others are short like yours.

If the spindle is removable, it rotates a quarter turn to unlock it. There shouls also be a single play spindle (if it hasn't been lost).
