Philips 790

Here’s an “antique” for you, a Philips 790 hifi tuner/amp made in Finland, together with a Philips 308 turntable, which has a Shure M75 EJ cartridge.
Nothing particularly remarkable about them I'll admit other than I bought these new in 1972 together with two fair-sized Goodmans speakers and the Sharp cassette deck.
This system has served me very well over the last 37yrs. I did have to buy a new belt for the turntable last year, (which wasn't difficult to obtain) but that’s all I have ever had to spend on the set-up.
It doesn't get so much use these days, but there seems little sense in replacing any of the kit. I can play CDs and the TV and DVD sound through the tuner/amp. The tuner has one of the first "touch" waveband changing system, which if the volume's up results in a bit of an unexpected "bang" as it switches over. Later versions of tuners with this facility, illiminated the noise.
