A newbie's Rock-ola 442 troubles

by hulkster83 » Mon Aug 23, 2010 9:55 pm

Hiya All,

I just received a rock-ola 442 from my aunt. I am not familiar with juke-boxing, ha, and need a little help. I've been trying to get it to work. The magazine seemed to work fine, then it stopped. I can't seem to get it to work in "scan" mode. Also, when I turn it to operation mode, the plate just spins and a little smoke rises from it. I will leave it be for now. PLEASE HELP!

Cheers,

Scott Oliver

Scott,
Unfortunately, you have "went and done it"--according to my theory, all electronic parts are made with smoke compressed inside those tiny little parts, and once someone allows the smoke to escape, it's all over :(
All kidding aside, Unplug it !!--If you have electro/mechanical skills, purchase a complete service manual, read it and go from there. If not look around, (hint Phone book in nearest large city) for a pro--Good copies of the SM are available at www.alwaysjukin.com I do not recommend buying it off eBay, as most are poor, and incomplete. Thanks Ron,

I hope it's not that bad; it only smoked for a moment. That was after I turned it back on...I shut it off when the magazine stopped, originally. The table spins fine and much of it seems to be in working order. My question: what could make the mag stop? I wasn't fiddling with it. I had it opened, and tried to select a record i placed in it. It just kept spinning and spinning. I am not sure if I flicked the switch to operational. It could have been set to off at that time. I wish I was more attentive during those seconds. At some point, the mag stopped..... sheesh, I hope this isn't the end!!!
