Magnavox stereo console - what year?

by spierce10 » Thu May 09, 2013 10:48 pm

Hi,

I recently purchased this Magnavox model 2rp628. Does anyone know exactly which year it's from in the 60's? Also, I've removed the needle because it was old and have ordered a new one. Any advice on how to install the new one? The arm won't lift very high and I hoped someone had a quick video on how to replace. One more thing! I can't find anyone in Atlanta who repairs these and the left speakers don't work completely right. Anyone had luck finding a place in or around Atlanta?

Thanks!

Not all, but many a new needle comes with mounting instructions--Hint: lay a mirror down so you can see what you are doing--
As for working on it try James Alexander in Jonesboro Ga--jalexandercc11@att.net
I don't know IF he will consider doing work on it, but if so, I think he is qualified.

"Exactly" what year?

Hold on, I'll consult my crystal ball..

Astrosonics of that type were sold through the mid-late 60's.
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.

The record changer dates this unit as 1967-1968 vintage. This has the newer style Micromatic with the slim head and single idler wheel. Which was the first thing cost cut on Magnavox consoles.

No, this is a W620-W622 series changer...looks more like a W621 that still had the dual wheels. I have several of those changers in my 1965 through 1968 Astro-Sonics. Those single-wheel units came later like the W714 and W801. --BB
