I've recently inherited a Magnavox Astro Sonic Micromatic Stereo console. The sticker that contained the model number and serial number is gone. The radio and record player work but you cant change the station on the radio. I took the back off the console and figured out the string for the tuner is broke. I was able to reach inside and spin a little wheel in there to find a radio station. I know the string needs to be replaced to fix this but I have absolutely no idea where or how to start trying to fix this. Can someone help me plz?

You must be familier with removal of the chassis from the cabinet, and have the proper Magnavox removal tool as well.
All the connectors have to be unplugged as well, then the chassis pulls straight out.
You must also know the proper dial-stringing arrangement.

Those chassis are known for having bad grounding solder points too, and these should be checked and touched up for reliability.

So you want to be a service technician, eh? 8)

Dang, I'd love to get this things fixed but it sounds like it might be a lil more than im able to do. I've never done anything like this before and im afraid if start tryin to get in there too much im really gonna mess something up. I have another console that is the absolute same thing and i have no idea wrong with it, it turns on but the radio doesnt play and the record player does absolutely nothing. I had planned on using the dial-string from the one that doesnt work to fix the other. Any suggestions? Should I try to attempt this or how do I find someone between Birmingham, AL and Atlanta, GA that could fix it?

Search around for a local repairman that does "vintage" stuff and knows Magnavox, particularly the "Astrosonic" line.

It's certainly not a job for the novice.
