Victrola #2 and Victrola #4 reproducers

Hello from South Florida,

I need your help regarding my recently rebuilt reproducers as noted in subject.
I note that the flange on both items are still hard as a rock, almost like metal.
I know the flange on the Exhibition reproducers are rubber like and flexible. Are the flanges on the #2's and #4's supposed to be rigid?

I am concerned that they were not replaced on the rebuild as both were 80 years old or more, i.e. 1918 and 1926 respectively.

I was charged $126.00 for the rebuild of both units, plus shipping. The #2 has a new mica, new needle bar, and 2 needle bar springs.
The #4 only had a new mica installed.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated! :D

The back flanges of both the #2 and #4 sound boxes were originally pliable--firm enough to keep the sound box from flexing, but soft enough to isolate extraneous vibrations. They were made out of a rubber compound which has turned rock hard with age.

If you want to replace them, they are available from the Antique Phonograph Supply Company -- http://www.antiquephono.com/victor.htm

I'm pretty sure that the flange for the #2 sound box will fit the #4, but you might want to confirm with APSCO.
You should easily be able to replace them by carefully unscrewing the screws holding them in the throat of the sound box, picking out the old ones, and installing the new ones.
