Magnavox speed problem

by magnavoxno » Mon Sep 28, 2009 7:03 pm

hi everyone, I just acquired a Magnavox player model 1P3741. The radio works well and the record player works but only at the 78 speed. It has a dial to adjust the speed to 45 and 33 but at these speeds it doesnt turn at all! Does anyone know what the problem, how to fix the problem? or am i just doing something wrong and what do i need to do?

Hello, and welcome to the forum!

While I'm not familiar with that model, I had a similar problem with the turntable in my Magnavox (only mine was stuck on 33). There are some parts underneath the turntable platter that need lubrication and time has dried them out. Those parts need new oil (only don't get any on the rubber idler wheels). Once the moving parts are properly lubricated you'll have a working turntable.

Someone with more specific experience to your turntable can tell you exactly what to lubricate.
