AMI G Amplifier

Howdy:
I recently restored a Wurlitzer Model 24 (feel free to ask me if you need help) and started to bring an AMI G-80 back to life. Based on my Wurlitzer knowledge, I'd like to know if its normal, that the AMI amplifier seems to be 'on' all the time ? The Wurlitzer powers down if not playing.

Hi Michaela,
Yep--that's an "AMi feature"-It remains on, even if you switch the phono off--See the service manual schematics--

I don't have the schematics yet, just got the box yesterday. Do they at least reduce power to the tubes or do they just let the tubes idle themselves to death? Quite a waste. I guess I'll address that issue while working on the machine.

Michaela, let's clear this up. The 1950's AMI amps cut off the B+ between records and in standby mode.
If you look at this schematic:
http://www.verntisdale.com/schem/ami-f-j.jpg -You'll notice a set of contacts coming off the 5U4 rectifier called "MR -(1)" those open only when the relay is energized as it is at all times other than play mode.
If you are working on the amp outside the machine the B+ will always be present since the relay will not be powered.
