I have inherited a cobramatic that was my grandmothers and am interested
in changing out the stylus.I have read that since I play only 78s on the player it would be better if I aquired a stylus specific to those records for
better listening quality.Is this true and how do I go about finding a stylus for
this turntable for that purpose?

Yon certainly do need to get a stylus spacificly for 78s as this stylus is a different size than it's LP counterpart. 78 styli generally run in the 2.5 to 3.0 mil range size-wise and an LP stylus is sized at 0.7 mil. Using the LP stylus on 78s will ruin both the stylus and the record. A needle that is too small will ride at the bottom of the groove picking up more noise than signal and as the groove modulates the stylus will end up bouncing around and banging into the walls of the groove. You can check e-bay and even if your specific part isn't there you will find sellers that have so-called stores and possibly have what you need. The prices for cobra replacement cartridge/stylus are pretty reasonable as I remember. Look for Ed Saunders on ebay he might have what you are looking for. Hope this helps.

There's another weirdness to this. Many 78-only Cobra-Matics used a special stylus with a vane that modulated a transmitter in the pickup. The amplifier then detected the resulting signal.
