Actually, Rob, using a woofer with a different resonance point on one side might be beneficial.
The reasoning is, the "bass boom" point of matched woofers is more noticable.
With one different different woofer, this point of resonance is spread out, (two smaller peaks instead of one big one) making the overall bass response smoother.
Magnavox used this method in their consoles, and I've adapted the principal as well in some sets, with quite nice results.
Another way is with matching woofers, but in different volume enclosures - same result.
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.
