Need Seeburg 12" replacement speaker

I have a Seeburg Fleetwood that has a bad speaker. (cracked paper cone)
I can't find info in the manuel about it.All I know is it is 12"
i'm thnking it's for bass only.
I've found full range speakers,but I'm not sure that would be suitable.
Vern was selling the full range,but is sold out.
Any help is appreciated.

The models after LPC the 12" were 5 ohm. So, you could use a 4 ohm or 8 ohm (with some loss of power). Efficiency and resonance point are the most important points here. The cabinet has decent cubic volume but is undamped and those early transistor amps have, at best, 10-12 w/rms per channel.

A free-air resonance of 70- 80 Hz and efficiency of approx 93 db or more will give best results.

Given the tight clearances it is a good idea to carefully check the dimensions of any sub chosen.

Personally, my first choice would be to repair, recone or get a replacement original for what is there. If you go the replacement route I'd replace both 12" for a better efficiency match.

Actually, Rob, using a woofer with a different resonance point on one side might be beneficial.
The reasoning is, the "bass boom" point of matched woofers is more noticable.
With one different different woofer, this point of resonance is spread out, (two smaller peaks instead of one big one) making the overall bass response smoother.

Magnavox used this method in their consoles, and I've adapted the principal as well in some sets, with quite nice results.

Another way is with matching woofers, but in different volume enclosures - same result.

Matt, that is valid point and Wurlitzer did just that with good results. My concern here is that since it is a stereo machine the relative efficiency between the two might cause an imbalance.

I guess the best course is to choose carefully and replace one speaker and then decide from there.

My advise would be to purchase another stock speaker. These are readily available from the suppliers listed above in "Parts-New/used--where to find". IMHO, anything else, especially in that cabinet, may cause "rattles" all over the place-- You might also consider having it re-coned. Ron Rich
