KLH MODEL TWENTY tonearm problem

by munkyboi » Sun Mar 06, 2011 4:52 pm

hi all,

i recently acquired a complete KLH MODEL TWENTY system that requires some work.

the auto function of the turntable does not work, but the manual function seems to be working to a certain degree. the issue is that the tonearm would not move far enough to play till the end of the record. when i try to swing the tonearm further towards the center/spindle by hand, i could feel some kind of spring resistance.

is there a way to adjust the tonearm so it will move more towards the center so it will play all the way to the end of a record? or is it an indication that something is broken or stuck?

i looked up the diagram of the GARRARD AT-6 here and i see there are screws to adjust the stylus tracking weight and the dropping position of the tonearm, but i don't see any screw to adjust the tonearm swing-out movement range.

any help and insight would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
m.

Sounds like the cam gear trip assembly is in need of cleaning.
No oil on those parts.
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.

You'd want something that cleans well, but leaves no residue. --BB

Hi there--this is obviously an older posting, but I am curious to see if you still have this unit and if you have it working? I recently purchased one that needs a new record changer--someone actually stripped it of all parts related to automatic operation!

I suspect that your problem is that while someone had the base open they left some wires unsecured that now get caught in the mechanism. The chassis in this unit is separated into several sections which are completely surround the turntable.

Anyone out there with a Garrard 3000 series table or one with similar mountings for sale cheap?
