1968 Magnavox 1P3701 Astrosonic Stylus will not go in!

I purchased a 1968 Magnavox 1P3701 Astrosonic console stereo and there was no stylus, so I purchased a 557-DS77 Astatic N2-SD type needle online, however, it just won't go in! I know I'm doing it right, but the shorter end of it that's suppose to go under the clip will not stay there. The clip sort of makes it spit out and it won't click into place. I've tried everything I can think of, except for removing the clip itself. I'm a little nervous about doing that. Help! Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Valeri

The "clip" is not removable - do it, and you'll render the (rare) cartridge junk.
A clear photo of the cartridge and needle would help.

The stylus slides/snaps in at an angle and is removed in the same fashion. You will hear the "click" when it is seated properly. --BB

Valeri,
If the needle "plastic" won't "snap" into place after you have "wiggled it" all the way, under the clip, someone's sold you the wrong needle ! (Many needles "look {almost} the same", but are slightly different) The "round part" of the plastic should fit into the groove, and you should be able to swing the "arm" from side to side, without the needle assembly, popping out, to change needles.
