Rockola 425 Write In problem

by ds100h » Fri Jul 08, 2016 6:26 pm

Hi

Working on a Rockola 425. I have burnished the contacts, cleaned and used Deoxit on all the WI/WO fingers and rings. When I make a selection, the write in arm turns until I turn the unit off. The write in arm never trips a pin so no selection is ever made. If I trip a pin manually the write out arm will select the record, play the record, place the record back in the basket and return to the home position.

Looking for ideas to resolve this WI issue?

Thank you in advance for any insight you can offer.

Best
Darrell

Hi Darrell,
I don't recall--does this model use the 6x6 inch, "selection box", with the triac's, and a couple of relays in it ?

Hi Ron

I do not see a 6X6 box, where should it be located? I do not see the triac's listed in the parts manual?

Darrell: your 425 is a step or two older than anything I have, but I had a similar issue with my 442. In that case, it was the second time I cleaned the contacts in the write-in relay and in the credit unit that it finally stopped and hammered a pin.

Hi Darrell,
From what Patrick posted, it sounds if this is a "pre electronic" model--check the schematic for WI operation --check relay contacts visually, and with an analog meter (power off), and you should find the problem---Ron Rich

Hi
Might be a long shot but if the jumpered wired plug for the stepper is missing or not seated properly then the machine won't write in or otherwise the keyboard contacts need cleaning. Can you post a few photos

Ron

Will check contacts. Thank you

Are you referring to the plug that has two horizontal and two vertical blades? If so there is no stepper and it is not plugged into anything, I assume it plugs into a stepper, however, it looks like it would also plug into WI unit assembly item 28 (8 contact socket). Pictures of what would assist you?

Hi
no not referring to that plug, referring to the psition on the write I unit marked stepper. In the absence of a stepper there is a jumpered plug in its place

I do not see anything marked "stepper" on the WI assembly unit?

If you are referring to WI unit assembly item 28 (8 contact socket) which is not marked????, then there is no jumpered plug in that contact socket.

Darrell,
A couple of questions--
Did you just acquire this phono, or is it one that- was-working, and just quit ?
Where is the cover for the junction box relays/price unit ?
Is the lamp good--contacts good ? If I am not mistaken, this is in the WI circuit and should "flash" when a selection is made -- Ron

Hi
Can't really make it out from the photos but there should be a jumpered plug when there is no stepper connected, might be labelled receiver on the unit, I will dig out a few spare units I have and post a photo but if the plug isn't there or if the plug if there is not seated properly the machine will try to write in but not select, otherwise the only other thing I can think of is to clean the stop relay contact points
