Hi--great to see the forum still going strong. I have a Voice of Music 560H which has recently developed an annoying ringing sound from the speaker. I have an aux speaker which also carries the ring. Sometimes it wavers, sometimes it disappears, but always returns. The ringing is also present whether or not a record is playing. Any ideas on what might be causing this, and what could fix it?

Two things come to mind Dewey. First is the possibility that a tube has become microphonic. I've had this happen before. Also, consider the cellphone. I had a church complain of a ringing noise in their sound system and no one could seem to track it down. Why they complained to me I don't know, I'm a pipe organ builder. But, never the less, I checked it out and sure enough the preacher's phone was setting it off. Bad shielding and out of spec caps generally produce hum not ringing. Regards,

Another possibility is that the speaker is shaking the pickup. This usually happens at high volume with small units with the speakers in the same cabinet as the record changer. If this happens, try turning the sound down little by little, and see if it goes away.

The ringing could also be bad room acoustics, excited by the playing record. Test this by clapping your hands with the record player turned off. This could include something sitting on a shelf or cabinet next to the record player or the satellite speaker.

A damaged ceramic cartridge can also ring.

Sometimes troubleshooting takes insight beyond electronics. I worked with a guy one time, trying to get the hum out of his component stereo system. After three hours of tinkering, i noticed the hum was still there when he turned off the amplifier. Someone else in the house had put up an electric wall clock on the other side of the wall the stereo was positioned against.
