RCA 45-EY-2

Hi. Haven't been on the board in a loooong while. Good to see the discussions resume after the change of message board format.I have a question. I got my 45-EY-2 record player running a couple years back. I replaced the paper tube capacitor. I bought and installed a retro-fitted cartridge and needle. It runs and plays great.

However after playing a stack of 45's, the thing gives off quite a bit of heat. Is that something that I should worry about? I do understand with three tubes, there will be some heat. I just don't know how much heat is not good.

As I understand it, the cabinet should be warm to the touch but not hot to the touch. You may, after playing it awhile, want to un-plug it and feel around the resistors and caps but it is unlikely you'll find anything. You can also check the brightness of the tubes. They should glow orange but not any brighter than that. The tubes will be HOT and if there is a ceramic resistor it too may be hot. This is normal. Hope this helps.

Yes, you are accurately describing the heat. You can touch it fine and it's warm but not at all hot. Going back to listening to Duke of Earl.
