I picked up a magnavox console and need help identifying the model. On the record player it says: micromatic and has the #: 150927-2. The console definitely looks to be mid century- it has a sliding top, four front wood panels and three faux drawer pulls.

You might see if you can find any stamping/stickers, on the rear, or inside the rear cover --these should help ---

Difficult to determine from the small blurred photo.
Likely a 1STxxx/2STxxx type of console - does it say "Astrosonic" on the radio dial? - if so it's solid state, if not, it's a tube unit.
Either way, it should be overhauled before continued use, otherwise you'll wind up paying even more for any repairs.

It does say astrosonic. I opened up the back panel and found the model number. It is a IST635. Do you know the approximate value of a unit like this?

It sounds like you're interested in selling that unit, otherwise they're quite common, and don't fetch high prices.
I only restore/repair them, I don't get into appraisals.

For a vintage Magnavox stereo or phonograph/radio combination, there's really no set value in terms of what you can or can't get for it. One that's been fully restored by a qualified technician will obviously fetch more than an as-found unit, but I've seen prices range from "free at the curb" to "Is this guy nuts?"

To find out what some have actually SOLD for, your best best might be to search completed ebay or other auctions for similar items.

You're describing a gazillion consoles that Magnavox made. A pic of the console and guts would be helpful. I picked up an expensive Astro-Sonic Imperial with reel-to-reel, worth about $900 back in the day, for $17.99 at a thrift store. Don't expect to retire any time soon from your sale. --BB




I didn't think much of it, because it looked like my newer 1966 Astro-Sonic which had the newer turntable, dark front panels and different control knobs. But when I took off the back panel...WOAH! Four horns, two enclosed speaker chambers, and an acoustical tunnel to connect them. Side by side, you wouldn't know that one was an Imperial. The one pictured below is just one of your typical, larger Astro-Sonics. The cabinets will fool you, but the "guts" will tell you what's going on up in there. --BB
