Wurlitzer 2600 , record won't eject back into rack , buttons aren't working

by ransome » Sun Feb 28, 2016 3:28 am

I just picked up a Wurlitzer 2600 that seemed to be in working order. It would play selections one at a time usually fine , sounded great.

Once in a while though the record would come up and you could see the 45 plunger go in and then out and the record would not turn. If you hit the eject button on the lower rear of the machine the record would eject back into its slot. After it was off for a while the machine would play a record just fine

Today , it was playing fine , then a record was selected and the the plunger went into position then backed out( the record is not spinning again) This time I could not eject the record using the rear button and now none of the buttons are doing anything

Thanks Gregg

Greg,
Is the Safety switch activated ? Attza whut it sounds like--Have you properly oiled the turntable shaft (hole) ??
BTW--You can only hope it NEVER "ejects" any records--as usually when any jukebox does this, it ruins the record !

Hi

Just to be clear , if in the middle of playing a record , I push the rear switch to stop playing the record and the record returns to the rack,,,That is harmful?

thanks Gregg

I just found the safety switch in the service manual , I will adjust that and see if that works.

Thanks Gregg

Greg,
NO!! Do not "ADJUST" nothing !!! The safety switch does not need adjusting, unless it is defective, or has been changed !
If pushing the "record cancel switch" (WurliTzers term) removes the record from the TT, the safety switch is working fine--if not, and the record is "stuck" somehow behind the "fan", the safety switch is doing it's job ! Ron Rich

Hi

Haven't touched anything yet. So , the record is stuck causing the safety switch to activate. What is the correct way to dislodge the record

thanks Gregg

Hi Gregg,
"Very Carefully !!" You sortajustgotta, work it out--if caught on the gripper, release the gripper by hand, and "wiggle" the record loose--usually once loose, it will fall into the basket-- Do NOT force/bend anything !! Ron Rich

I moved the plunger in the rear of the assembly and the record fell back into the rack.

None of the buttons are operational yet , is there a reset or something else I should look for

thanks Gregg

Good question

I don't think the coin slot is working , I sent some change down the chute with no results.

I have a key on order for the back , Is there a lever or button that I can manually add credits

Thanks Gregg

Early Jukeboxes had no free credit switch--it was added by most makers--but I do not recall when, on Wurlies ??
If there--it's a small, black, side switch, on the keyboard-- Ron Rich

The black side switch on the back of the keyboard is not doing anything. What else do you can you recommend

thanks Gregg

Hi Gregg,
Yep--fizzit ! Got the manual ?? got the key--RTFM and find out 1. how it's supposed to work, then, 2., where it's failing--
At least that's what I would need to do-- Ron Rich
