I finally got my VL200, I loostened the carriage mounts to give it some suspension, freed up the tone-arm, put a record in A1 and pressed the selection. "A" button did not lock, I had to press them both at the same time for the selection to register. It scanned across to the record, picked it up and started playing!! Then it would not eject when done. I removed the mech cover and exercised the end of stroke switch, It then did reject the record, placed it back into the magazine and headed to home position. It bound up 1/2 way back and the motor stopped. It was still applying pressure on the gearbox but it is very stiff. My guess is it needs lubrication. I turned up the heat in the room to get it to loosen up. I would plug the machine in and push the motor shaft in the direction it wanted to go to free it up. It did eventually start moving again. I put some lube oil on the motor and gears and tried again. It still wants to bind up.

Guessing it is still quite bound up with old grease and I need to clean and lube the mech and clutch to get it to work faithfully. I have the service manual but Ron, I hear you have a guide for servicing these mechs. I'm fine with removing the whole assy to service it. I want to clean it up like new and lube it all up to where it works 100% before tearing the machine apart to restore it all. The sound is poor IMO, muffled and not crisp at all. I imaging I'll need to rebuild the amp and replace the speakers??

John, the proper approach is to do the full restoration -then- apply power in stages and work out remaining problems.

Trying to "just get it running" when so much else needs to be done just risks doing real damage to the machine.

This was supposed to be a working machine (and it does more or less) I am ready to tear it apart, take pictures as I go, use the manual as a guide but could use a jump start if anyone knows of any decent tear-down videos I would appreciate it. What is the sequence? Remove the glass, non-electrical parts first? What modules are removed in what order etc..

Glad you found one ! The "binding up" won't be in the "gearbox", it is "something" either along/in the track, or in the area of the popularity meter, or on the "V's", I have seen the rear of the mech, with the frog caught on the cable, which is used to open the upper rear door--this is rare--.
