I've never heard of such a model (which doesn't mean much), but it certainly is an interesting set-up. Thanks for posting !

well JoeDS, that's VERY interesting.

First off, you're right about that portable being the same as the one in Cooper's book but what about that fluid system on the cabinet machine!

I also love the latter cabinet patent with that large exponential type internal horn. The really good thing about that design is the the wing arrangement enabling the lid to be truly part of the horn mouth in the "open" position. Great stuff and thanks for sharing it with us!

BTW I seriously doubt that these were ever produced as prototypes although i'd love someone to prove me wrong!

HMV didn't want to pay royalties to Western Electric at this time for the Orthophonic horn design so were desperately trying to invent new ways of increasing the length and size of the "new" zinc internal horns.
