Decca Souvenir record

by sentjourn » Sun Nov 25, 2012 2:37 am

Just came across something I think may be a little special in a batch of 78s I recently picked up. It's a Decca 10" white label with gold lettering. There is no catalog # and the label reads Souvenir Record "Celebrating the production of 20 millionth radio". It has a matrix # DLA2058A on side titled Where The Blue Of The Night Meets the Gold of the Day and the flip side is matrix # DLA1778A titled Home On the Range. Both sides sung by Bing Crosby. It is in very fine condition. I know both these titles are very common by Bing Crosby but I have over 13,000 records in my collection and have never seen this one. Can anyone help me with an issue date or any other info on this record :?:

I'm wondering if that would have been a special or test pressing of the 1947 20 millionth Philco Radio commemorative record.

I found a reference to the one released in Canada -- http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeremyhopkin/3610923243/

Between 1946 and 1949, Crosby hosted "Philco Radio Time," so it would have made sense for this to be used as a promotional item.

Thanks Joe. The one they show has a different label than mine but it all fits. By the way I have the consolette radio/phonograph they talk about. It is called The Bing Crosby in their magazine ads.
