by chompo7 » Sat Jun 05, 2010 8:53 pm

hi everyone

ok i need some help,i got my first magnavox phonograph
and am at a loss as to what i did? the tone arm wasnt raising
enough and i saw 2 small screws underneath and loosened them.
well unfortunately i loosened them too much and the arm came off.
of course there was a tiny metal plate behind the screws that i lost
when i loosened the screws. i found the plate and put the screws
back in but now its not starting at the beggining of the record and all off cycle!
where is the set down screw and tone arm raise on these collaro and how do i get the cycle back where it should be? i dont know the model but its mid 1950s mono. help guys im over my head with this changer!anyone have schematic with all the parts and adjustments? its not a micromatic that sizes the records with the arm,its
probably circa 1954-56 model i dont see a model# other than amp 147 AA i did see a similar looking one in a billboard magazine and it was called a monterey in the ad.here is a link as i dont know how to post a photo!

hi Chompo -

Can't tell from the pic in your link what turntable model actually resides inside the cabinet.
You may make better progress if you can locate the sticker on the changer itself that
provides a model or model #.
On some models (at least late 60s) the sticker is found on the underside of the turntable baseplate.
You'll need to lift the changer out of the wooden cabinet to look beneath it ( where the motor and all the changer guts are)
for a sticker that gives the model #.

But before you go through all that, I have one older model (F-200C) where the sticker is located beneath the rubber mat on
the platter itself. You might try looking there first - after all this time, the rubber mat is probably loose anyways.

When you post, there is an option at the bottom of the screen to "Upload Attachment."
Click on Browse, which takes you back to your hard drive, select the pic, then "Add File." --BB

It sounds like you have a Collaro RC-456 or similar. The 2 screws and little plate that you mention are the tone arm set-down adjustment. Loosen one and tighten the other to adjust. A small adjustment makes a big difference. The tone-arm height adjustment is made by sticking a suitable pin into the rod in the center of the bushing that the plate and 2 screws push up against, and using the pin to screw the rod up or down as required. This is done while the turntable is stopped, unpowered at the point where the arm is at its highest.
