Hi Al! New to the board here. I purchased a 1961 RCA Victrola with AM/FM receiver and Phono. The guy had it up and running when I picked it up. Fell in love with it and brought it home. Its a Model PVCRH-106. The radio seems to work fine. However the Phono not so much. When I put it on 78, it just clicks and doesn't spin. All other speeds it spins. I really want to learn about these machines and have been searching for days and stumbled upon this site. Hoping someone can help! Any good repair shops around the South Jersey area that anyone knows of that wont cost too much out of my small budget? :)

Being from 1961, I will assume it's never been serviced.
And if you really like it and want it to last, indeed, it'll need mandatory servicing before use.
Otherwise, it's a ticking time bomb till something fails.
Depending on what is needed, expect to outlay a one time investment - however, it'll never be needed again for decades.
No, thay're not "cheap" to service, the job's tedious and time consuming - I've done enough of them to know this.

Thanks for replying Matt! What is not cheap and any idea on where I can have it serviced? I live in Southern NJ. Hoping hubby is onboard for this. :)

Changer drive components were maybe $2.75 in 1960.
Today, around $35 for a replacement.

Tubes in 1960 were maybe $3.15
Today that tube costs $25.

$0.16 motor mounts back then now cost $10 a set.
Phono cartridges are up there too.

Figure in hours of tedious labor, possible dryrotted wiring replaced....
Expect a couple hundred, but that comes with peace of mind and reliability.

Me?
I've got months and months of backlogged customers waiting due to the overwhelming demand for these sets now.

A few hundred I am good with. :) I will check around for someone who does repairs. You are in Philadelphia? How long is your list? ;)
