LPC mechanism dead

by Don67 » Thu Jul 14, 2016 9:01 pm

I have an LPC-480 that doesn't want to do much of anything. The mechanism won't move when any selection is made, nor when the service switch is moved to scan. When the reversing relay is switched to move R-L there is a buzzing sound made from the mechanism, but no movement. Following procedure 15LPC it says the problem is in the autospeed or the mechanism, yet those contacts test ok. Any ideas?
Thanks, Don

Hi Don,
a few of questions--
1. Did you check the voltage at the reversing RELAY ? If not there, did you follow the path from the scan control points thru the Autospeed (relay) back thru the TCC, and to the motor ?
2. Do you have a Code A, or Code B, TCC?
3. Is the mechanism in the scan, play, or transfer cycle ?
4. Can you move the mechanism by turning the Motor COUPLER ?

Ron,

I did not check the voltage, just continuity with it off. I'll have to get back to you on 2. The mechanism is in scan mode, and moves freely up until about G2, where a wasp nest in the popularity counters is preventing it from moving any further  !! I sprayed the next and tomorrow when I feel safe removing it I'll answer the TCC question.
Thanks, Don

Don,
I thinketh you've answered your own question--a wasps nest--never saw that one, but have seen mouse nests stop-em-- Is that the "humming" you heard ??
