Tape Input on a SC515W?

Hi Gang - a couple of weeks back I posted about a Sylavania SC515W that I purchased this past summer.
It has 'Tape' along with FM, AM, Record, etc on the input select. Someone suggested this was likely for a reel to feel tape recorder. If it was, those components are gone now.
I'm wondering it there is any way to use that source for any auxillary input? Would be very cool if I could run an external music source through the console so I wouldn't just be limited to records and the radio.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!

Greg,
It would be my guess that you should be able to use it as an aux.--just plug something in, and see what happens--won't hurt anything--- Ron Rich

As long as the source has line level outputs, it'll work.

Greg,
"Tape" would be that "Aux input".

I'd have a 50 year old console checked out and overhauled first, before worrying about what else I could plug into it.
It's like driving down the highway on 50 year old tires and worrying about what stations I could get on the car radio.
Eventually.....

Hey Matt,
NOW you tell me--just last week I put 4 new tires on my exactly 30 year old Chebby pick-up truck, with 4 79 K miles on it--now the AM portion of the radio is acting up--FM is fine? Could the tires have made it act up ?? (

Hey Guys - sorry but I'm totally missing this. I see on the knob where I can set the input to Tape or auxillary. But I'm not clear where I can physically input a cable from another source through the radio. Where would the jack be? I'm not seeing that anywhere.

Greg,
If you have an "aux." and "tape" input selection knob, the jacks for those should be on the chassis --Probably "RCA" type jacks, in the rear--somewhere---- Ron Rich

In all my experience with consoles, the jacks in uestion would be located on the rear, if not on the radio chassis itself.
But again, to fuss with a 1964 console in original unrestored shape, and ignoring the impending damage that could happen by using it "as is" -is plain foolish.

I remember a couple of consoles from that era (magnavox) that had the jacks located inside, behind the back cover, real handy.
Also there were a few, lower priced Zenith's come to mind, that the jacks were a small extra cost to be installed by a serviceman if desired.
Please take Mattech's advice and have the unit rebuilt properly.
