My mother-in-law left us a Magnovox Micromatic "Astro-Sonic Stereo High Fidelity am-fm radio and record player in a walnut cabinet Model 2ST(7?)646 with a 4-speed changer. We've used it as a piece of furniture only, as it lacks a needle.

We're ready to get rid of it to anyone who may be interested. We don't know the value or where to go in Boston to get it to someone who knows more about it than we do and who may have an interest in it. I'd appreciate any help.

What a treat the Internet is! To be able to find this place and ask my questions of knowledgeable people...Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us.

I just wanted to let you know that I feel that Magnavox
was top of the line back in the 1950s and 60s. Probally
70s too. I have had three Magnavox stereos(including
the one I have now) and the were ALL wonderful. They
all had speakers on the front as well as on the sides, The
Sound quality is just magnificent, I have owned a lot of
newer stereo systems in the past, but the older ones
seem to do the trick for me for some reason.

I'm finding that a lot of people want to get rid of these
now, due to downsizing and just not having the room.
I would suggest maybe placing an add in the paper,
if you are looking to sell. You'd be surprised at the
people who are interested in that kind of thing. Also
needles can still be found easily on the internet if
you know the model number. Also, you'd be surprised
to know that you can also use these older models
to play CDs. I have a five disc CD changer that
I have hooked up to my 1963 Magnificent Magnavox
so I could enjoy both. I wish you good luck.
