Seeburg M100C capacitors

by steve_b10 » Sun Jul 22, 2012 4:51 pm

Hello Ron,
I'm going to re-cap my Amp and Receiver (MRA3-L6, WSR5-L6) and I have a question about the aluminum can caps. Are those normally replaced? If so, are exact replacements available?
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
I don't know if they are still available--I have not used any in years--Check with Vern Tisdale, he may still have some ($$$).
I usually just by the "kit" from him, which has the dedicated replacements, that fit under the chassis-- easier that way-- ( www.verntisdale.com ) Ron Rich

The twist prong cans on the amplifier operate at high voltage and get baked from the heat. These should be replaced as they can suddenly fail and take out the power transformer.

I prefer to install brand new twist prong cans when they are available in the correct values. Unfortunately, for those two Seeburg units there are no newly manufactured replacement cans. You can either hacksaw the old ones open and "re-stuff" them with new caps, or you can get a terminal strip tie point and install seperate modern electrolytics under the chassis. I just recapped a Seeburg "B" and had to do the seperate electrolytics under the chassis routine.
