Rockola 437 basket just stopped

Hi - I'm new to this forum so please forgive any naivete on my part. I just purchased a fairly clean working Rockola Ultra (model 437), brought it home, and played it for several minutes to make sure it worked. Everything worked fine - record selector buttons pressed, correct record was selected, placed on turntable, played (sound was a little bass heavy but certainly OK), returned, and basket returned to start position. The next day I played a couple of records and while the basket was turning, all of a sudden the basket stopped rotating at selection D5. The service scan switch moves easily in all three positions but does not rotate the basket. Is this likely to be just a blown fuse? I've visually checked all the fuses I can see and they all look fine (although I'm not sure where I'd find replacements - neither Home Depot nor Lowes has exact equivalents and I'm afraid of replacing them with anything even slightly different). All the rest of the moving parts seem to be doing their thing. There is no coin mech but the credit button someone added on the back racks up credits. The arms on the left side of the selector assembly rotate when I select a different selection from the topside buttons. There is no sound of anything grinding or appearing to try to move and there is no smell of any burning parts, so I don't think anything is bound up.
Any ideas? (Thanks!)
Paul

Just guessing, as I don't know one RO model from the next, without a copy of the Service Manual (available from
www.alwaysjukin.com and others)--but I think that those were equipped with a circuit breaker(CB) in the motor circuit. There should be a couple of red, and one yellow pushbuttons around, which are the CB's for that model--
You are correct--Do not replace any fuse, except with the correct size and type ! Fuses used in most jukeboxes are commonly available at good electronic parts houses--Ron Rich

Thanks Ron - there are no obvious circuit breakers on any of the visible internal electronic boxes and my model 437 Service Manual does not mention them. BUT I'm one step further down the road: the fuse labeled "1.6A 28VDC MECH" was blown (and whoever replaced it last had replaced it with a 3A 250VDC fuse). Under visual inspection the fuse looked fine but my ohmmeter showed no continuity. Replaced it and the basket move about 2 degrees (.5 seconds) and the fuse blew again. Still nothing appears bound in the basket or basket drive. What would cause this fuse to blow instantly?
Thanks, Paul

Paul,
That's the DC supply for the motors--fuse blowing can be caused by a pinched wire --somewhere--or the motor itself. If your skill level is such that you feel that you can do it--remove the basket motor, dis-assemble, and clean it, check/replace the brushes, and re-assemble, then pray-- PS Don't overfuse it !! I'm glad I found this page. I have a Rockola 1478 Tempo II that I bought restored and used for years with no problems and then I had the exact same thing happen as described here. The magazine stopped one day in mid turn and just blows fuses now. I will try to examine and clean motor as advised. Would the motor be the most obvious source of the problem? The nearest repair people are 4-5 hours away. thanks

Unless something is "blocking" the basket, the motor is the most common reason for blowing the fuse ( or CB on newer style phono's). Ron Rich

Do you have the Service Manual ? Your problem, as you say, is the same as above--therefore, the same answers apply--
