LS-3 Plays 2 backlogged songs, then quits

by Rob_Feature » Fri May 30, 2014 3:34 am

So I'm starting to get the feel of my LS-3 juke and I've finally defined it's current troubles. Here's the symptoms (posting because I dont see anything like this in Rons microlog book):

I had previously entered a ton (maybe 20) selections but was confused as to why they're not playing. Now, I enter a new selection and the following happens consistently:

1. Enter new selection
2. Juke plays, but not my selection
3. Instead it plays a 'backlogged' selection of the many I entered previously
4. It plays that song...then another backlogged song
5. Then it scans twice and stops.
6. I enter another song into the keypad
7. Plays 2 backlogged songs, then quits.
8. Repeat.

Really odd symptoms. Where should I look?

I think it is somewhat normal that it will play previously selected songs, but you'd think it would play them all through to the end.

Had wondered if there was a way to clear what is in the machine's memory. My NSM had done similar, had played/attempted to play some previous selections, even after the unit was off and unplugged, it remembered things.

Does your juke have a reject button? You could rinse/repeat, by rejecting it when it starts to play one of the earlier selections, and keep doing this until it clears? Just not sure if there's a way to clear what it has in memory.

Yup, good stuff here Tim, I thought the same thing. "There must be a 'flush all previous selections' functionality"...but I cant find one.

Whats weird is this pattern broke as soon as I posted this message. Now it's playing a bunch of backlogged stuff in a row. It may have been a REALLY crazy coincidence that it did the 'play 2, quit' thing about 10 times in a row first...now it's cycling thru them all.

My 2xx selections dont work, so I wonder if it was just a coincidence that ever 3rd selection was a 2xx (so it killed the process)? not sure...still trying to figure it out.

mostly posted this to see if anyone had ever seen this pattern before...thanks for chiming in!

Let them all play through and enjoy the music? :D

The grey box (Tormat memory) is holding the previous selections, and I don't think there's any way to clear it.

Hehe, funny you say that...sitting here with a glass of wine and the laptop enjoying it until it plays out. I'll tell my wife I'm "troubleshooting". ;)

Tim,
With all due respect--a Seeburg is NOT a NSM ! There is a "flush" procedure, and the "Grey box" is NOT a "Tormat", nor a "Memory" system, of any type !
Rob,
Those symptoms are covered in the guide--tho stated somewhat differently--so put down the wine, and read the MicroLog Guide-- (Thanks for purchasing it !!) Ron Rich

Thanks Ron, I did some searching and there was a lot of mention and reference to the grey box being Tormat. Good to hear there is a way to flush the memory though!

Hi Tim,
Well, what can I say--depends on where you "researched", I guess--- There is a LOT of BAD information on the web, about all types of things--This usually leads to worsening of any problem. I hate when "people" post what they think, as fact--"Opinions", are fine, BUT, IMHO, should be marked as such-- Ron Rich

Thanks Ron, I took the obvious approach when I searched it, and the info came up on Tony Miller site that you have stickied above: http://www.west.net/~jay/fmillera/fmill ... eboxes.htm

So some differences in the LS-3 models or am I reading it wrong that there is reference to the LS-3 on that page having a Tormat? I know you that you know your Seeburgs, but does his page above indicate an LS-3 having a Tormat, or am I wrong in thinking there are obviously other versions of LS-3 that do not have it? Just good to know myself for future reference. :)

Rob,
All LS-3's have a Tormat--wait for your Service Manual--then read it--
