Seeburg SMC1 runs to slow in playing mode

Hello all,

I have some problem that my SMC1 runs to slow in normal play mode.
When I count the rounds per minute it is around 42.

I think its the problem of the motor cap.
But in my manual i saw that it must be an 2.2 / 2.2 uF 260V, thats also in the juke right now.
But i cannot find the same capacitor on https://www.jukebox-revival.eu/staging/

I have already found that the second capacitor is used for the scanning and transporter arm, to speedup the motor.

Whats the best way to do?
Do i need 2 single 2.2 uF capacitors?

Yes, you can use two separate capacitors. Are you sure that the motor is properly and adequately oiled? A motor that uses a run capacitor is a tuned circuit so an off-value cap will usually have a pronounced effect as shown by fluttering and slowing.

Also, I assume your power is 50Hz, are you using a converter or do you have the 50Hz gears installed?

What is the exact model number of your phonograph ? Which brand motor is installed ?

The motor is oiled and the power here in the Netherlands is 50Hz.
On the PCC is 50/60Hz notice.

Hi Mike,
Your phono model number is "ESMC-1"--It has the correct 50 Hz gears, unless someone has changed them !
If this problem occurs only on ONE side of the records, I would suspect the motor control circuit in the PCC, Inter Face Board (IFB).
Other then that, I would guess that oil, lack of, or incorrect, is the problem. Depending on how "dirty" that mechanism is, if "someone" has used a "grease" on it, you probably will need to remove all old dirt/grease/lube, of any kind ( also from inside the motor !!), and re-lube it with the proper materials--DO NOT use ANY "Lubriplate" under any circumstances !! . USE A LIGHT, GRAPHITE BASED GREASE, ONLY, IF/WHERE NEEDED.
If you have a cap checker, you can easily check the cap, or, you can reverse the two "hot wires" and see if that improves the speed.

Thanks for your informations.

Its correct that the ESMC1 model is noted on the back site of the juke.
Both sides on the single has the same speed around 42 RPM.
So I will clean the motor tonight, and see whats happen.
But which capacitor do you advice me when I need to replace them?
Aim looking for the original one but I cannot find them.

Both of those caps are the same--I still doubt the cap you have is causing your problem--like I said earlier,either test it, or swap sections, before you replace it-- Ron Rich

Hi Ron,

After I had test to changing the caps it has the same speed around 42 RPM.
But after we cleaned the motor internal it's runs around 44,5 RPM so
much Improvement!

I assumed that would happen--I still think you have some "wrong" lubrication in the drive train, somewhere, or, one, or more of the thrust bearing adjustments is incorrect --- Ron Rich
