AY160U W/UniversalPricingUnit Cabinet Wiring

by BigBird0000 » Mon Nov 18, 2013 1:26 am

Does anyone have a copy of the AY160U (with Universal Pricing Unit) Cabinet Wiring (what plugs into what) that they can send me?

My unit mech does not scan when selection is made, and I am thinking I don't have all the plugs in correctly (mech scans via service switch)

Bird,
That's in both the AYU, and DS model service manuals---but I doubt you have it plugged in wrong, as all plugs are "keyed", and different. Look at the "keys" on both the one that comes from the TES, to the USPU, and the one from the USPU to the TSU--make sure the "keys" are still there--

Ron, you are right, they cannot be messed up.

My manual does not have Universal Pricing Unit info. (It is listed in the TOC, but page(s) are missing)

Following troubleshooting:

Carriage does not scan after records are selected. See "J", Page 235.
------------------------
"J" 235
SYMPTOM
1. Selector operation seems normal but mechanism carriage does not scan when ANY record is selected
TROUBLE AREA
1. Credit Unit
2, Tormat Selector Unit
3, Mechanism
4. Electrical Selector
5. Auto-Speed Unit
CORRECTION
Use Procedure Chart - 14AY
-----------------
14AY

TROUBLE: SELECTOR OPERATIONS SEEM NORMAL BUT CARRIAGE DOES NOT SCAN WHEN ANY RECORD IS SELECTED.

CAUSE OF TROUBLE IS IN: Credit Unit or Tormat Selector Unit or Mechanism or Electrical Selector or Auto-Speed Unit.

PROCEDURE:

1. Make sure Service Switch is in PLAY position. Note if carriage TURNTABLE moves SLIGHTLY when selector is operated. [DOES NOT MOVE]

IF NOT proceed as follows:

2. Check if counter operates when selector operates [COUNTER DOES NOT MOVE]

IF COUNTER DOES NOT OPERATE see item 14 of Single Pricing Unit (SPU1) Service Notes or item 17 of Credit Accumulator Unit (CAU1) Service Notes.

-----------------------
17 CAU1:
IF "D" contact fails to close when subtract-2 operates THEN
Carriage does not scan when records are selected
14 SPU1:
IF U contact fails to close when cancel solenoid operates THEN
Carriage does not scan when records are selected

I do not have SPU1 - no troubleshooting notes for Universal Pricing Unit. How do the "D" and U contacts above relate to the Universal Pricing Unit.

What actions in the Universal Pricing Unit should I see when I add credits (via service switch), and make selection?. The UPU has some info on the label attached to it (shows which solenoids are which, contact locations, etc)

[All the solenoids operate smoothly by hand, and the white wheel rotates]

Any help would be appreciated!

Bird,
Where did you get that "Service Manual"/"Trouble Shooting Guide" ?
Neither is for the model phono you have !
You will need to purchase the correct items, for an AYxxxU model, from one of the sellers listed above.
Can you establish credits ? Does the latch bar solenoid energize--?
Using the service switch-manual credit button, you should see the nickel coil energize, on each "push" of that button. Ron Rich

AY160U W/USPU1 Scan Problem Write-In?

by BigBird0000 » Mon Nov 18, 2013 10:37 pm

I don't remember where I got the manual, it has the AMR #R-329 (Trouble) #R-273 (I&O). Neither one has the "U" on the cover, and checking the usual suppliers, they don't show a different manual for the "U" versions of the AY.

I can establish credit(s) [latch bar works], and when I make a selection(s), the selection buttons pop up, and the "Make Selection" light goes out, but the mech does not move (stays on the right).

Using the service switch to add credits, the nickel solenoid does operate, and adds credits.

If I move the service switch OFF to the left, the mech will scan to left, to the right and stop. (without moving Manual Credit Switch to RIGHT)

SERVICE SWITCH -- SCAN - to the RIGHT. Forces the carriage to scan (diagnostics) [I SEE AND HERE NOTHING]

I found USPU1 documentation on a CD I bought many years ago. It says the write-in switch should be adjusted to the switch is about to make when cancel arm engages. It was set so make was done when cancel arm was at end of travel.
Could this be problem? (no chance to test yet)
