Rockola tech support should be able to. Since the Rockola company just got purchased by their competitor, Rowe-Ami, the company is being moved to Rowe's business offices in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Thanks Ken,
But i am talking about a mid 1980's vinyl machine ( like the wurlitzer 1050)
Do they still repair parts that old?

Guys,
There now have been three different "Rock-Ola companies". The original one owned by Mr. Rockola, was sold by him in about 1993 to "Antique Apparatus Co. (aka AACO) who then changed their name to "Rock-Ola". This is the company that has just sold the commercial side (only) to ami entertainment, which owns RoweAMi. AACO will continue to "back" the CD units--somewhat--Rowe will do the "downloaders"--
The "1000" model was made by the original RO, and was never "backed" by AACO. Since the death of RockOla Charlie, a few years ago, I know of no one fixing those computers. However, I do know a guy who has (a few ?) "tested good" computers for sale. They are NOT cheap ! Contact me off list if you are interested --ronnnrich@yahoo.com Ron Rich

I wonder if Antique Apparatus (Glenn Streeter's portion of Rock-ola) could work on those?

I don't want to "butt in".. but the late Charlie Mayer & I were friends for many years... Living just miles apart....( including his '53 Chevys)....besides Rock-Ola jukes. Usually, the "boards" in those later Rock-Ola's were OK....BUT! the power supplys were bad!. Before going to the "cpu"....check out the power supply. Even if you get another "cpu".. a bad power supply will "smoke it". So, check the power supply 1st. If it is OK (probably not)... get it repaired BEFORE you install a new CPU or repaired one. Many "boxes" were sold to destinations that the installer didn't check the "incoming" voltage... homes, establishments, etc. A lot of the " boxes" required PROPER VOLTAGE SETTINGS... usually stated on the "installation manual". When RockOla went to cpu's...the voltage tolerances became limited to less than 5% in some cases. ( I.E. 110 VOLTS VS 130 VOLTS) . This didn't apply to all machines...but, is prudent to check out. Also...dirt & dust on a cpu / power supply can create "cross-talk". That means "dust" fibres transmit VOLTAGE between components especially in high humidity. So, CLEAN the cpu / power supply with a brush.. with your person GROUNDED... so as not to cause static electricity. Most components ( caps & resistors) on these earlier machines can be replaced with intelligent testing. Good Luck! Dudge.

Rock-ola Nostalgia 1000

by jambo » Sun Jul 26, 2009 7:20 pm

Hello, I need your help. I have a juke-box Rock-ola model Nostalgia 1000, with computer-board signed SYSTEM 2 54910-A. On this board there are two eprom label signed 544790-32 and 544780-32, and the third eprom is absent. Of this eprom I know only the symbol appearing on the printed circuit board, PROM 2758. Let me know if you know how to find this eprom . Waiting for your communications.

On similar subject , I am trying to put together a 1000 parts machine, have 490-1 book as reference, it shows me a 54910-A as amp, but i purchased a 52280-a, prematurally, which amp does the 1000 require, and also am needing a power distribution assembly 54920-A. can anyone help me with these questions? thanks

Once again--people-PLEASE post your location in the world --- especially if you need something. Then check the "announcements section" (above) for "where to find---" I would guess that the book number, for the amp, is correct ? Ron Rich

I think this is a little off topic, but it was the only result for the Rockola 490-1.

I'll post the problem in hopes of some guidance:

The machine picks up a record and plays fine. When the record is through, the tone arm doesn't get out of the way of the gripper. This knocks the record off and I fear will soon ruin the needle. I have ordered a manual from Victory Glass but it hasn't shown up yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Jon

Jon,
Does this happen after playing both sides of a record ?
(BTW--all RO grippers are basically the same for 45 rpm phono's)

It happens all of the time, whenever it gets done, the tone arm starts to retract and the gripper hits it

Not having seen this problem, it would be my guess that the tone arm cam is not timed correctly.
Check it--It may be held in place with two "Allen", spline, or "Grub" screws.
I would have the record on the TT, and turn the gripper motor by hand till it almost touches the record, and adjust the cam so the tone arm is past the record's edge, at that point--
(might check the service manual--it may give better instructions for alignment then I did !)
