basics of jukebox operation

Hello. Brand new to the Forum. I read the "newbie" post and understand. I have a Rowe R-74, plus the service manual and parts catalog. I am looking for a resource to explain the basics of how a jukebox works. What are its major parts and what do they do? Basic maintenance and operation. That sort of thing. For instance, I have my service manual, and I see my machine has a sprag relay, but I have no idea what the sprag relay is or what it does.
so, does anybody have any basic references that lay out the basics of what is in a jukebox and how it works?
Thanks,
Keith

Keith: Your question is rather broad. but to simplify it down, Think about what happens when you put a coin in and follow it down to the final result, Music. So coin goes in to "slug rejector" and tells the "credit section" what coin(or bill) was put in, to register credit for plays. You push buttons on the "keyboard" to select what you want. The "record playing mechanism" takes that information and plays a record(or cd). the signal goes to the "amplifier" and finaly to the "speakers". Over the years these parts have varied quite a bit.
If you are looking at the record carriage parts list. The Spragg relay you mention should be what stops the carriage at the correct slot to play your selection. Not 100% on that as i have worked on later rowe units(r83-87) and just compareing from memory.
Reading the threads in this forum, checking out youtube "how i fixed it" videos, will help you to get a better understanding of operation. Every manufacturer had what the thought was the best way to do the job. So they are all diferent, but the learning about those diferences is what makes this hobby rather fun.
Hope this helps. Mark

Hello Keith,
Welcome to the forum.
If you have the R-74 Manual I suggest that you read it cover to cover a few times.
All the information you require is in there, in sction 4 (Trouble shooting) there is the sequence of operation, this shows a small part of the circuit and describes what is happening, you can follow what is happening on the drawing.
The section in the back of the manual shows all the parts of the jukebox by position, name and part number.
