Seeburg USC2 does not play

by wolfeel » Tue Oct 14, 2014 8:36 pm

I picked up a Seeburg USC2 awhile back and I am trying to get it up and running. When I picked it up the assembly would shuffle to the left and right but would not pick up a record (there was only one in it). I manually put the record in it and it did play. I transported it on its back and did not pin the entire assembly down (I did not have the bolt) although I tightened the nuts on the frame down as tight as I could with my hand. Not sure if it happened when I transported it or if it was damaged prior, but I found the popularity meter actuator assembly loose and it looks like the plastic nubs that ride along the rails broken. Will the machine operate with it disconnected and removed??

Right now I can power it on but it seams dead as I can't get it to move around or anything. The only thing that I can really get it to do is when I press the mechanism start on the service switch bank the mechanism will start to spin and then I can get it to stop by pressing the mechanism stop button twice. Ran a quarter through it and nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, I was really gonna pass on this one but, you did write "--Any help----"
1. Yes--you probably broke that pop meter actuator off--and yes, just un-plug it for now ( I stock the nylon parts-PM me)-
2. un-plug the whole phono from the wall outlet, until such time, you have read the "stickies" posted above (which will tell you to RTFM), and IMHO, read my "Seeburg Mechanism Guide", and my "Seeburg MicroLog Trouble Shooting Guide" (Once again, PM me to purchase them, if you wish) Ron Rich

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I do have the manuals and have been reading them and just ordered the Seeburg Microlog Jukebox Troubleshooting Guide...just looking for a little direction. I am a avid arcade machine collector and repairer but this is my first juke. I will shoot you a PM for the two plastic parts that I broke, thanks!

After reading the manual I was able to get it into "freeplay". The selection playing always illuminates "257" no matter what I do. I am able to make a selection and it will trigger the mechanism to start rotating but the record assembly does not move to the left or right. Patiently waiting for the Troubleshooting Guide...

Kevin,
If you have ordered my "Seeburg MicroLog Trouble Shooting Guide", it ain't gonna help you with this problem, 'cause it's not a "MicroLog system" problem ! This appears to be a mechanism problem, or amp problem --you will either need to "weed through" the Service manual, or use my Seeburg Mechanism Guide to TS it--( Hint--lift up on the detent release lever, and see what happens---) Ron Rich

Thanks for the hint Ron. I am making progress! When I make a selection it now scans up and down twice...never picks anything up and the rests on the right side. Should I follow Tony Miller's troubleshooting guide symptom #3?

You're welcome,
On Tony's guide--probably--I don't remember, and I helped write it- -one thing to remember--it's a GENERAL guide for all of the Seeburg selection systems--Ron Rich
