Magnavox Portable Stereo

by Dave vincent » Fri Oct 02, 2009 1:08 am

I've been sort of looking for a Magnavox portable to replace one that my parents dumped in my absence. It was an early transistorized unit dating from around 1965, off-white wrinkled vinyl cover, with swing-out speakers on the sides that detached. The center section contained the drop-down changer, and the controls were in the front of the drop-down section so they weren't visible when the changer was swung up. It was no powerhouse, having probably less than 10 watts per channel playing into (as I remember) a 6" x 9" speaker in each wing. It had the white micromatic changer having the larger turntable with four metal inserts in the turntable mat. If anybody can help me with a model number and maybe a picture, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Dave Vincent

When you flip the turntable down, look up inside the top of the cabinet...there may be a sticker there hidden from view, at least mine does.

Hii Dave:

Happy New Year!

I had a Magnavox Portable Stereo (white) similar to what you described. However, I lost mine in a 20-foot flood brought by typhoon Fengshen in June 2009. For a video similar to this Magnavox Portable Stereo, please logon to www.youtube.com/magnavox micromatic. Perhaps the model number and video is similar to your Magnavox.
