rockola 56180 amp issue

by southofi-10 » Sat Apr 12, 2014 12:28 am

Got a rockola 56180-2a in a 6000 thats giving me distorted sound out of the right channel.
It's not the speaker...but the amp itself.
I was wondering what i should check.Capacitor, power transistor??Maybe even a bad connector? Don't know where to look. Not real familiar with amps.Maybe should look at all these, lol
This problem occured before, amp went in to overload, then the sound came back fine after turning off/on.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

I had the same thing in the similar 496. I was fortunate that it wasn't in the amp. In my case it was in the volume control. Especially at lower volumes, one side would get distorted, then drop out. This would frequently set off the overload light which would sometimes reset after I switched main power off, then on. I swapped it out and the problem was solved. You might try that. Even cleaning volume control contacts would be easier than going through the amplifier if it helped. In any case, it can't hurt.
