Old Crank Up Record Player

I found an old crank up record player in a junk store and bought it for 10 dollors. It is Brunswike Blake Collander brand. I turned the crank, but nothing happens. Somebody said maybe the spring is no good. What should I do? What kind of albums can you play with the player?

It can play only 78 rpm records made before 1933, but not all brands.
