What controls selection speed on wurlitzer jukeboxes?

Some random thoughts for the day. I personally have seen 2 wurlitzer 2000 juke boxes side by side that were completely gone through, cleaned, and refurbished back to working order. What's strange is on jukebox #1, if you get A then the number 1, bang! it would activate a pin just like that! Literally instantaniously.

The 2nd 2000 that was next to it, if you pressed A, then hit the number 1, it would go "zzzzt" for about a half to full second, then activate the pin and take off.

Is this an adjustment in the stepper somwhere? keyboard? Or is it just a matter of one having healthier plunger coils on the selector ring? Does anyone know if there's such thing as a "selection dwell" that can be adjusted on these machines?

Just curious.............

I ASSume, it's the same on the 2000, as later models--weak power supply, relay, or other contacts in the "string", not conducting well--Ron Rich

Oh very interesting. So you're saying it's an issue of "conducting" and not an adjustment? So it could be a weak rectifier, dirty or bad contacts then? I would assume proper operation would be for it to work lightning fast. The whole "zzzzt" thing is everything slow to energize then, huh?

If the low-dc rect is defective the changer motor which is the heaviest load will be slow. if not, contacts are the likely suspects here.

FWIW: Did you actually see the insides of both machines. Someone might have placed a 2100 mech in there as the original "Ferris wheel" was a nightmare to deal with. This does require a 2100-2200 or slightly modded 2400 junction box as well.
