Seeburg SS160 constant scanning problem

by DrummerErock » Mon Sep 15, 2014 10:06 pm

Hello Everyone,

Im a Jukebox "newbie" and just acquired a Seeburg ss160 Jukebox from my father which has a few issues. My dad had bought it about 20 years ago and it worked fine when he got it, but after about 5 years he stopped using it and just stored it for like 15 years. So when he decided to give it to me he said it has some issue. So Im hoping its just a few things and not a money pit. The speed is pretty slow but after doing some research I saw that it could be the capacitors in the speed part of the Jukebox that would need to be replaced to fix that issue. The other issue is that the selector just keeps going back and forth without ever stopping unless its is powered off. After tinkering around I noticed that I could get it to stop and play a record if I manually filp a lever near the tone arm, but after the song finishes the record just keeps spinning and never ejects without flipping the lever again. I know that this jukebox needs some cleaning. I was gonna go through and clean all the contacts I could find, but I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem and knew what exactly was causing this. I posted a video below of the problem.

Also I do not have any service manual or repair guide, but Im looking to pick one up. Just wonder if there are any recommendations for a guide with the model I have

Thanks

Eric

Hi Eric,
I would advise you to read the above posted "stickies", and order the Service Manual Package from one of the "legit" sellers listed there. It would also be my humble opinion, that my "Seeburg Mechanism Guide", would be of some assistance to you. If you would like to purchase a copy, please PM me.
Going by the sounds your mechanism makes--I am guessing that a total "bath" and re-lubrication is necessary. The constant scanning may be the result of having moved that phono laying down on it's rear, without the proper shipping bolts installed ? ( this may cause minor damage, or, can be fatal damage, to this model) --or a couple of other things-- You will need the Service Manual to identify parts on the phono, in order to proceed.
Meanwhile, I would suggest that you pull the plug on it, until after you do some reading--Ron Rich
