Rockola 437 vs. 440 Interchangability

by 3BadBirds » Wed Oct 22, 2014 9:15 pm

Hi!

Several months ago I picked up a Rockola 437 Ultra. I'm new to the hobby and thought restoring it would be a good way to lean more about how they work. Shortly after I started tearing in to it, however, I noticed this juke was in much worse shape mechanically then I had originally thought.

I recently noticed a local ad from someone selling parts from a Rockola 440 including a complete working mechanism. I know the electronic components between these two models are slightly different but was wondering if the other physical pieces were a direct swap - they looked very similar. If they are that would save me a lot of time and aggravation.

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers!

Hi
Should work as they are very close in time.
Get both of the Manuals for these machines, Rock-ola manuals are usually very good and show each stage of the operation with reference diagrams, so you should be able to work out any differences between the two machines.

Things like speakers should usually be totally compatable so you could swap any damaged ones.

Hope this helps

Hi York,
Not knowing the "nuances" of RockOla's, I would guess that the mechanisms should be exactly the same ( different "gingerbread", maybe)--Having both model parts books, should clue one in--
As for the "speakers"--Usually, jukebox makers used speakers "tuned" to the cabinet--different cabinets required different speakers--once again--part numbers will tell this story--

I picked up the 440 and will keep my fingers crossed. I already have a manual for 437 Ultra so once I get one for the 440 I should be in good shape. These machines are only a year apart and the cabinets are very similar in size and design - the biggest difference being that you could still see the record play on the 437.

More to come....

Thanks for the help!

There were some minor revisions in the parts between the two machines, but I doubt any of them would prevent you from swapping the entire mechanism from one to another.

You'll be better able to tell once you have both manuals.
