What is this Edison find?

by Tree-tracker » Sun May 17, 2009 3:24 pm

I bought it just because I'd never seen one before! I've got an Edison Diamond Disc Record 12" in diameter with 5 songs per side. The record is marked "Edison Sample Record" & "Property of Thomas A. Edison Inc., Not To Be Sold".
Does anyone know the history of this large disc?
Can anyone tell me what the value might be.....I gave 5 dollars!
Thanks!

It appears to be a demo for the Long Playing Diamond Disc. This was an improvement that Edison offered shortly before the company stopped making records and players.

A bit late adding to the thread: that record was meant for dealers, and features excerpts from releases that were current at the time (1926 to early 1927). No direct recording there, just dubs from other Diamond Discs. Those 12" Edisons are nice to have, since they're not common at all, but you'll have a better listening experience from the original 10" discs since they were directly recorded.

The price you gave for it was excellent; I've seen them go for much more on eBay.
