Grundig Majestic SO 260 U/S

I recently inherited a Grundig stereo console from my grandparents. The stereo turns on, and the record player works, however no sound is coming from the speaker. I know absolutely nothing about radios, but am assuming it is something with the amp. I would really like to get the stereo to work because it is a beautiful looking stereo. Any advice on where to start would be greatly appreciated. I also considered buying external speakers (book says compatible with stereo-mate II or IV, however no luck finding these on the internet).
