Is there any possibility my problem may be in the tone arm or even a bad cartridge?

You'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge on this but what do you mean by "sway around the left and right inputs in the cartridge"

Thanks

That's Irish for "exchange" left/right inputs---

Hi,

if still the Philips cartridge, which was originally used by the Deutsche Wurlitzer, is installed, then it may cause the problem. These cartridges tend to be faulty these days and loose volume. I recommend to connect the cartridge to another amp (home stereo or so) to find out whether it plays fine then. If not, a new cartridge might be needed.

Kind regards - Hildegard

These Philips cartridges are not available anylonger.
The ceramic cartridge Pfanstiehl P-132D is a good replacement. It works and sounds fine in X5. You can get it at Victory Glass, it's their part number 3744. http://www.victoryglass.com
Originally this cartridge comes with a Varco TN4 needle. If you can find a "Columbia DSN45" needle, then you might want to replace the Varco against the Columbia. The Columbia needle creates a greater dynamic sound than the Varco in my opinion (we sell the P-132D cartridge with Columbia needle).

Hi Ron,
thank you for your suggestion. I already had written this answer before I read your post. So I will publish it anyway.

You keep referring to stickies to find my answers, I have no idea what stickies are unless you mean to do a search on Wurlitzer X5 which I have done in this site and did not see any info relating to my issues with this ptoblem

Informal Stickies = first five post with an "i" on the main page of this Jukebox forum: viewforum.php?f=3
These are general posts to help finding parts supplier, how to create a post etc.

You're welcome.

Maybe you use the time until then to connect the old cartridge to another amp (home stereo or so) to find out about its sound quality.
At least you did not say whether you already did test that.
Having a spare cartridge might be a good investement in general. But finding out where the problem is caused is an important step when working on jukeboxes. Otherwise it's trial and error.

Kind regards - Hildegard

unfortunately I don't have anything I can test it in. The amp I bought to replace the original one was rebuilt and working according to the person I got it from, so hopefully it is not a bad amp.
