Thanks for such a great site! I know you probably get tired of these kind of posts, but I will try to keep it short. I bought a Magnavox 1st623 sn#1800738 stereo/phono player at an auction for 30 bucks. Cabinet in wonderful shape and owner said it works. All I did was power it on and everything seemed to work. After reading your site, I will not plug it in again!
I want to get this serviced and restored but I would like some info about this particular year and model. Is it considered a desirable model? What can I expect sound wise after proper restoration. I have manual and a pfanstiehl 352-s7 needle in the original sales envelope. Looks like it sold for 349.59 in 1962. Thanks for any info you can give me. I will attach a few pics.

1962 means it has a tube amp and tuner. I'm certain the electrolytic capacitors are out of spec and are in need of replacing. You will need to find a technician in your area to restore this set if you want it to function safely and properly. It is worth doing .

Thanks Thom! There is a company in West Nashville, Vintage Hi Fi,that will work on it. I have no idea on how much it would cost. I have yet to contact them. I did take tha back off out of curiosity and it is awful dusty. It looks like it has 12 or maybe 15 in woofers side facing and 2 mid range font facing on each side. I remember growing up with one in the house in the seventies which was a dinosaur! This one is surprisingly small, only 4ft wide, which is fine with me. What type of wattage would the amplifier produce in this one? Thanks again.

Hd,
I assume you made a typo here-do you mean 12-15 INCH speakers ?? If so, I would be very suprised to see more then 10- 20 watts output--
"Wattage" when it comes to audio makers is like "horsepower" is to auto makers--depends on how it's measured--and even then, subject to sales hype--- Ron Rich

Depending on the amplifier's design, it most likely uses 6BQ5 outputs, so 4-10 watts is the usual case.
I've worked on enough of them to know.
