I just purchased my first Jukebox and having an issue. It did work fine for a bit but then.....

It picks a record, plays it through, then at the end it will not return the needle and return the record. Once the needle activates the optic I hear a click but nothing. I have the turntable and wheel unit out and replacing some old parts now (sprag, belt, and tightening some mechs). The CCC shows a warranty tab on it from some shop/repair guy but I dont know who. It was serviced about 2 months ago. Would it be the CCC or the board under the turntable? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Plus I am always on the hunt for 80s records if anyone has any.

Also, it will return the record and needle when i turn the switch to service. The cancel/reset button on the turntable unit doesn't work. Short?

Hi Danny,
I would suspect an "open", not a "short" is your problem--however the service switch position is confusing.
I doubt the CCC is the cause--but I suspect the MCU might be--Check ALL of the "plugs" --both the "pin" (bent?) and the "headers"--these tend to have cold ("dry") soldering on them--
When you hear the "click"-- is the scan/transfer LED turning on ??

Welcome to the forum.
Nicknames are great but we do like the use of proper names on this forum.

I concur with Ron that you need to check the wiring looms for connection issues on connection pins and for cold joints on the boards including the pricing board (the long board with the plastic cover) all lines of data & returns go through this board, so check out the top & bottom connections.

When I test jukeboxes I start with the Power suply PCB and work my way upwards.
We test the main boards as a set of boards:-

CCC
Mechanism Control Board
Pricing Board

Are all the leds light on the power supply or are any not lit or dim?

Please let us know how you get on.

Ok, the "mag Adjustment and LED light on the computer control module. FYI I have unhooked all coin mech stuff from the unit. Could that be an issue?

Hi Danny,

The coin mechanism wiring from the CCC does not come into play< I assume you have the CCC Normal/Test switch set to test?

Have you checked out the opto switch adjustments as per the manual if you are getting it selecting one record off.

It is recommended that if you change a mechanism control board or CCC that you always check the opto switch adjustments.

Your optical LED should not be on if the basket is stopped at a record. You might clean your service switch. I take them apart and clean the contacts. This is a tricky operation, do not lose any of the internal components. The theory of this switch is when you put it in 'service' you connect 8v, 28v and 28vac. When you slide it to ON you disconnect those and reconnect them, PLUS '8 volts ON', your CCC might think its in service. Did you check EVERY connection and connector? Don't forget the pricing board. All the ones I have seen looked like they were made on a different wave solder machine and they missed the lower connector.(I have worked on the R84 from the day it came out.)

Well, without the manual this maybe hard. I did however get it selecting the right record. I'm a little mad I bought this at the price I did. I paid high so I didn't have to do this work. Thanks for all your feedback and I will help log the issue for future owners to help resolve.

Hi Danny,

You said you lifted the mechanism carousel out of the jukebox!

Have a look at the two transfer micro switches, these two switches have un-insulated spade connections fitted to the switches, make sure that none of the spades are touching each other (shorting out the switches).

John is correct re the service switch, you need to check your power rails at the power supply, service switch and at the plug and socket on the side of the mechanism.

I suggest you purchase a manual before you go any further.

To add to Alan's post--those un-insulated lugs are "crap". They fail to make good contact often, and tend to split open. I always clean the switch "posts" with DeoxIT, and change any of the lugs that do not "feel tight".

I did get this up and running. Just a short in the wire.

Now, my wheel will not accuratly stop to pick up the records. The videos I have seen the wheel stops on a dime. Mines has about 1/4" of leeway the wheel can move. Something I can tighten so it wont jiggle? I am going to take out the mechs tonight. Thanks guys for your help and have been trying to research this issue but cannot locate the location to adjust this.

Hi Danny,

If you have got that much movement in the carousel/basket then more than likely the four rubber bushes in the sprag wheel will have rotted from being oiled or you could have missing or worn teeth on the sprag wheel.
